Q: One of the big

Q: One of the big chain bookstores recently opened up near my small book store. Already I can see my business starting to decline. Is there anything I can do to compete with the bigger store or should I just accept the inevitable?
— Peter Q.

A: A wise man once said, “The inevitable is never a sure thing.”

Don’t be so quick to close the book on your business, Peter. You probably can’t compete with the superstore on volume of inventory or on price, but there are other things you can do to help keep the customers coming in your door. One of the best ways to ensure customer loyalty is to offer superior customer service.

It’s funny that you’re a bookseller. Let me tell you about my last visit to one of the big chain bookstores just a few weeks ago.

I took my teenage daughter in to find the classic book, The Once and Future King, for a school project that has to be done over the summer. It was a Sunday afternoon and the store was crawling with customers. We spent fifteen minutes scouring this great warehouse of a bookstore, but couldn’t find the book anywhere.

Minister set to visit over new train link

AREAS of Tamworth which could be affected by a new high speed rail route are to be visited by a senior politician.

Secretary of State for Transport, Philip Hammond MP, has promised to visit communities along the potential high speed rail route.

Tamworth MP Christopher Pincher asked Mr Hammond in the House of Commons about the impact the new High Speed 2 rail-link will have on the communities of Drayton Bassett and Hints.

Mr Pincher said: “I am very pleased Philip Hammond has agreed to visit.”

He added: ” I will be writing to him to invite him to visit Drayton Bassett, Hints and Weeford, on the edge of Tamworth, to see for himself what the impact of a 50 metre wide track will be on local homes, businesses and the environment.”

DDR for example currently comes

DDR for example currently comes in either pc2100 , pc2700, & pc3200, while DDR2 comes in pc3200, pc4200, pc5400, pc6400, & pc8000.

RAM also works at various megahertz, limited by the megahertz that the Front Side Bus on your motherboard works (the Front Side Bus, or FSB, is the channel on the motherboard used to transfer information from the CPU to the RAM) so if you have RAM that works at 500 megahertz, and the FSB of your motherboard only runs at 333 megahertz, then 333 megahertz is the fastest your memory can run as well.

One very important note about computer memory, is you do not want to mix various speeds of memory, because the Motherboard will take the slowest speed and dummy all the rest of the fast memory to that slower speed.

Elementary girls are target of at-risk grant

Elementary girls are target of at-risk grant

0 Comments | Florida Times Union, Jul 29, 2010 | by DEIRDRE CONNER

Overlooked and often invisible, troubled elementary-age girls are one group that anti-crime efforts rarely target.

But organizers of an innovative new program hope that will soon change, thanks to an initiative that could have up to $1 million in funding.

Starting in January, the National Council on Crime and Delinquency Center for Girls and Young Women will work with disruptive girls age 5 to 12 in two Duval County schools. The idea is to start early in an effort to keep girls out of the juvenile justice system.

The initiative, announced Wednesday, was awarded a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. It will run over four years and provide $500,000, which must be matched dollar-for-dollar by the community. At the end of the four years, the program will continue.

The Weaver Family Foundation is matching the first year of funding. “For too long, young girls in trouble have been almost invisible,” Delores Barr Weaver, founder and trustee of the foundation, said in a statement.

Lawanda Ravoira, director of the center, said a study group, including Weaver and other local leaders, studied the issue of girls at risk since 2008. What they found was an overlooked but pressing trend of girls and young women getting in trouble.

“These things aren’t really talked about,” she said.

Last year, the group found, about 850 Jacksonville girls in grades kindergarten through fifth grade got in enough trouble to receive out-of-school suspensions. That amounts to nearly three in 100 elementary school girls. That rate increases exponentially among sixth- and seventh-grade girls. The findings took even the study group by surprise, Ravoira said.

The project, called “Girl Matters: It’s Elementary,” will begin in George Washington Carver Elementary and North Shore K-8. The schools were selected because they showed a need for early intervention among young girls. Leaders of the schools say

“I’m very happy because our girls will receive some immediate attention,” said Tarsha Mitchell, principal of North Shore K-8.

The grant’s funding partners toured Mitchell’s school and were able to see during their visit that most of the students in the administrator’s office for disciplinary reasons were girls, Mitchell said.

“They got to see first hand a great need for North Shore and the girls that we serve,” she said.

North Shore’s female students, Mitchell said, will now have access to more interventions, including tutoring, counseling and mentoring. There may even be group sessions for female students to talk and share experiences. Mitchell said the program will continue monitoring some students as they matriculate

The taste is

The taste is deep and rich. If you are blessed with a nettle patch near you, use the fresh plant as a pot herb in the spring.

Some pregnant women alternate weeks of nettle and raspberry brews; others drink raspberry until the last month and then switch to nettles to ensure large amounts of vitamin K in the blood before birth.

The benefits of drinking nettle infusion before and throughout pregnancy include the following:

Aiding the kidneys: Nettle infusions were instrumental in rebuilding the kidneys of a woman who was told she would have to be put on a dialysis machine. Since the kidneys must cleanse 150 percent of the normal blood supply for most of the pregnancy, nettle’s ability to nourish and strengthen them is of major importance. Any accumulation of minerals in the kidneys, such as gravel or stones, is gently loosened, dissolved and eliminated by the consistent use of nettle infusions.

Increasing fertility in women and men.

Nourishing mother and fetus.

Easing leg cramps and other spasms.

Diminishing pain during and after birth: The high calcium content, which is readily assimilated, helps diminish muscle pains in the uterus, in the legs and elsewhere.

Preventing hemorrhage after birth: Nettle is a superb source of vitamin K, and increases available hemoglobin, both of which decrease the likelihood of postpartum hemorrhage.

Shopping, such fun

Shopping, such fun

Supermarkets can be hell for children and parents. Liz Breslin suggests taking a different approach.

Ihave never been one of those women to stand in a supermarket checkout line, rocking my child-free trolley.

I have only rarely been one of those women who have misbehaving children kicking in the aisles, although there was the time that I got down on the floor and had a tantrum to stop a tired child from doing much the same. It worked, really well.

Let’s face it, supermarkets are a cruel, torturous trial for children. Tantalising smells invite them to poke their hands in the bread bin. Toys, chocolate and magazines at head height in boring lines scream “Touch me!”

Mum says, “Just for looking”.

What is there to like about a supermarket if you can’t actually do anything in it?

Plunket’s advice on children and shopping, as part of maintaining a secure, structured environment, is “Don’t try taking them to the supermarket when they’re tired and hungry”.

I would go a step further. Don’t take yourself to the supermarket in that state either. A coffee and a sticky bun now can avoid a lot of mayhem later, although Plunket probably doesn’t recommend the coffee for under-fives.

I have a girlfriend, who, taking that advice to its logical extremes, reasons that her children will always be tired and hungry by the end of a supermarket trip, if not at the start.

Her solution is to leave them at home. She doesn’t rock trolleys in the checkout line. She shops in heels and reads magazines while she waits. Fabulous.

But there is another way. It’s a longer, messier way. Some days it requires two sugars in your coffee to get you through it, but its aim is to get children to understand where food comes from and how.

features a flexible online format, eight-week-long courses, two-week

missing in the healthcare marketplace a DNP for executive nurses who
want to specialize in practical leadership skills,? said Catherine
Garner, DrPH, MSN, MPA, RN, FAAN, Provost and Dean, Health Sciences and

Busy nurse executives will not only find our program livable and
manageable, but fulfilling and enjoyable. Plus, they will acquire
specialized leadership credentials, making them all the more valuable to
their organizations,? Dr. Garner added.

Theres a distinct body of knowledge assigned to nursing leadership,
and I want to become a practitioner of that knowledge,? said Roy L.
Simpson, Vice President of Nursing at Cerner Corporation and a student
in the programs first cohort. American Sentinels non-traditional
online approach, the bridge program, and the two short residencies will
allow me to pursue a doctoral degree while I continue to work and

three years of senior executive experience and a Masters degree. No GRE
or other placement testing is required.

Some are open and

Some are open and others are closed. You have to look hard to find these groups, but they can be some of the best resources out there.

Search Google for ?Leads Groups: Your City?

Closed Groups

LeTip

? This is a networking group that only allows one company from each industry, hence the closed group title. The exclusivity of closed groups is great if you can get in with a good group that has every intention of getting bigger. That means you will have all of the members acting as your salespeople, which is far more cost-effective than hiring a sales team of 20+ individuals.

This group has a greater sense of trust among the members than say a ?Chamber of Commerce,? because you are with them every week and you get to know each member and their business individually. There are a ton of chapters throughout the US so check it out at http://www.letip.com

BNI

? Very similar to LeTip. One company per industry. Both BNI and LeTip have training programs that help you learn how to market yourself to other people quickly and effectively. The one catch is that closed groups usually do not let you be a part of other closed groups, so you have to pick one you like and stick with it.

Another economical way

Another economical way to purchase ink cartridges is to get them refilled. Refilling kits are available and easily to do. They contain compatible ink, a squeeze bottle or ink syringe and an instruction manual to assist in refilling the empty ink cartridge. However refilling is not possible for all types of cartridges.

Ink provides detailed information on Ink, Ink Cartridges, Printer Ink, Inkjet Ink and more. Ink is affiliated with Printer Ink Cartridges..
