Supermarkets can be hell for children and parents. Liz Breslin suggests taking a different approach.
Ihave never been one of those women to stand in a supermarket checkout line, rocking my child-free trolley.
I have only rarely been one of those women who have misbehaving children kicking in the aisles, although there was the time that I got down on the floor and had a tantrum to stop a tired child from doing much the same. It worked, really well.
Let’s face it, supermarkets are a cruel, torturous trial for children. Tantalising smells invite them to poke their hands in the bread bin. Toys, chocolate and magazines at head height in boring lines scream “Touch me!”
Mum says, “Just for looking”.
What is there to like about a supermarket if you can’t actually do anything in it?
Plunket’s advice on children and shopping, as part of maintaining a secure, structured environment, is “Don’t try taking them to the supermarket when they’re tired and hungry”.
I would go a step further. Don’t take yourself to the supermarket in that state either. A coffee and a sticky bun now can avoid a lot of mayhem later, although Plunket probably doesn’t recommend the coffee for under-fives.
I have a girlfriend, who, taking that advice to its logical extremes, reasons that her children will always be tired and hungry by the end of a supermarket trip, if not at the start.
Her solution is to leave them at home. She doesn’t rock trolleys in the checkout line. She shops in heels and reads magazines while she waits. Fabulous.
But there is another way. It’s a longer, messier way. Some days it requires two sugars in your coffee to get you through it, but its aim is to get children to understand where food comes from and how.

Meeting the Demand for More Nurse Executives with Practical
Leadership Skills
AURORA, Colo. — American Sentinel University, an accredited
online university that provides nursing, informatics,
business and leadership online degree programs for healthcare
professionals, announces the launch of its first doctoral degree
program, Doctor
of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Executive Leadership.
The two-year nursing leadership DNP fosters nurse executive practice
within a complex, highly computerized health system. The program
features a flexible online format, eight-week-long courses, two-week
breaks, a bridge program for those with non-nursing Masters degrees,
and just two 10-day residencies.
We are excited to introduce a degree program that has been noticeably
missing in the healthcare marketplace a DNP for executive nurses who
want to specialize in practical leadership skills,? said Catherine
Garner, DrPH, MSN, MPA, RN, FAAN, Provost and Dean, Health Sciences and
Nursing at American Sentinel University.
Busy nurse executives will not only find our program livable and
manageable, but fulfilling and enjoyable. Plus, they will acquire
specialized leadership credentials, making them all the more valuable to
their organizations,? Dr. Garner added.
Theres a distinct body of knowledge assigned to nursing leadership,
and I want to become a practitioner of that knowledge,? said Roy L.
Simpson, Vice President of Nursing at Cerner Corporation and a student
in the programs first cohort. American Sentinels non-traditional
online approach, the bridge program, and the two short residencies will
allow me to pursue a doctoral degree while I continue to work and
travel.?
The 42-credit program is open to nursing executives who have at least
three years of senior executive experience and a Masters degree. No GRE
or other placement testing is required.

Some are open and others are closed. You have to look hard to find these groups, but they can be some of the best resources out there.
Search Google for ?Leads Groups: Your City?
Closed Groups
LeTip
? This is a networking group that only allows one company from each industry, hence the closed group title. The exclusivity of closed groups is great if you can get in with a good group that has every intention of getting bigger. That means you will have all of the members acting as your salespeople, which is far more cost-effective than hiring a sales team of 20+ individuals.
This group has a greater sense of trust among the members than say a ?Chamber of Commerce,? because you are with them every week and you get to know each member and their business individually. There are a ton of chapters throughout the US so check it out at http://www.letip.com
BNI
? Very similar to LeTip. One company per industry. Both BNI and LeTip have training programs that help you learn how to market yourself to other people quickly and effectively. The one catch is that closed groups usually do not let you be a part of other closed groups, so you have to pick one you like and stick with it.

Another economical way to purchase ink cartridges is to get them refilled. Refilling kits are available and easily to do. They contain compatible ink, a squeeze bottle or ink syringe and an instruction manual to assist in refilling the empty ink cartridge. However refilling is not possible for all types of cartridges.
Ink provides detailed information on Ink, Ink Cartridges, Printer Ink, Inkjet Ink and more. Ink is affiliated with Printer Ink Cartridges..

The current “opt in” system of organ donations — where individuals are asked to register their willingness to be a donor after their death — has been the subject of debate for many years.
The current way is called the “altruistic approach.” Altruistic in the sense that you donate for free without any incentive. The opt out is a mechanism that functions with “presumed consent,” assuming someone is willing to donate unless they register their objection by an opt out by recording the unwillingness to give organs in writing.
A poll showed that 50% of the public favored the current system, 28% supported a shift to presumed consent and 22% expressed no preference.

It can be found by visiting www.grandriver.ca and selecting ?River Data?. The data posted is updated every hour.
Along the river, public access is often restricted to bridge crossings because the land is privately owned and posted. The river is best fished by canoe, kayak or platform rafts. In late summer the river becomes shallow and walking is required through some sections regardless of the boat used. Canoes and kayaks can be rented locally in Paris or guided platform rafting services can be hired. Guided services are recommended on this river.
This is a river of swifts and pools with fallen trees? the perfect habitat for lurking smallmouth bass. The bass in this river are almost green in colour and worm free because of the number of inflowing cold springs. The smallmouth bass dominate the river but there are water lily sloughs containing good populations of pike with some bullhead catfish. In the deeper holes pickerel or walleye can be located. There are no barbless or baitless restrictions on this river.
A fishing trip on the Nith River is timeless. Not because of how good the fishing is? but because of how much the river winds.

Often the adjustable bed

Often the adjustable bed manufacturers place their focus on the fact that these beds can be adjusted to a person?s natural shape and promote healthy circulation. Maybe you prefer sleeping at a slight incline, with the upper body slightly higher than the lower; or you prefer to add some support to your knees as to bend them slightly at an angle?it?s merely a matter of preference.
People who suffer from back problems have to be especially careful when choosing the bed they sleep on. It is important to keep in mind the type of mattress, paying close attention to its firmness or lack there of, as well as keep in mind the bed?s over all ability to support the human body while it sleeps. Often people who have had back surgery or suffer from other back conditions find comfort sleeping in a recliner because the position relives pressure from the afflicted area. Many people with such ailments opt for an adjustable bed. Though no real research exists supporting the fact that the adjustable bed is best for such conditions, it is thought that the bed?s ability to support the natural flow of the body provides some relief.
Adjustable beds are often a great asset to the elderly.

Don’t waste cash on weight-loss supplements
0 Comments | Daily Mirror, The; London (UK), Jul 22, 2010 | by MIRIAM STOPPARD
I’ve long felt that many so-called weight-loss supplements on the shelves of pharmacies and health stores are useless.
Now two new studies back up my view – and, at a conference in Sweden, the researchers even went as far as to say these products should be banned. I agree with them.
I’m angry they’re on sale at all, when manufacturers should be aware they don’t work and pharmacies stock them – and that they benefit from a loophole in the law.
The studies, one from Britain and the other from Germany, show that the supplements, often derived from plant extracts, are no more effective than dummy pills.
No science
When UK researchers reviewed studies on nine weight-loss supplements containing ingredients from bitter orange to green tea extract, they found no evidence that any of them worked.
German scientists carried out an eight-week trial, also on nine supplements, and found that those taking the pills lost some weight – but it was no more than the amount lost by people taking fake pills.
Yet these products claim to do all sorts of things, including boosting metabolism, reducing appetite, blocking carbs and dissolving or absorbing fat.
As a doctor, I knew the only thing these products lighten is your purse. The science behind them just doesn’t add up.
But anyone who is desperate to lose weight will want to believe the claims. After all, they wouldn’t be on sale in reputable stores if they didn’t work, would they? Wrong! While medicines rightly go through rigorous scientific evaluation to determine their benefits before they’re available, food supplements don’t. As a result, very few have been submitted to decent-quality clinical trials on humans.
Sadly, this doesn’t stop them making a lot of money for a lot of people
